National Reading Days festively launched at KDV MacGillavrylaan

21 January 2026

The National Reading Days have started. This annual campaign highlights both the importance and the joy of reading aloud to young children.

At KDV MacGillavrylaan, the start of the Reading Days was celebrated in a festive way. The CPNB, organiser of the National Reading Days and Children’s Book Week, hosts Reading Breakfasts across the country. During these events, ambassadors – from authors and speakers to well-known public figures – read aloud to officially kick off the Reading Days and to show how fun and valuable reading together can be.

KDV MacGillavrylaan was also invited to take part. The children enjoyed a special visit from radio DJ and presenter Frank van der Lende, who read from Little Monkey (Kleine Aap), the Picture Book of the Year 2026. Dressed in pyjamas and onesies, the children listened attentively to the story. After the Reading Breakfast, they were treated to a mini currant bun.

Over the next two weeks, reading will receive extra attention at KinderRijk. Reading aloud helps build vocabulary, supports language development and sparks imagination. And just as important: it creates a warm moment of connection and togetherness.
